An “AMAZING” Ride To The Homegoing Celebration!

At 10am on Good Friday (April 18, 2014), we checked out of Wake Medical Center in Raleigh and immediately headed to William-Toney Funeral Home in Zebulon. I can stop here, close out this blog and shout right now because the first sentence was just a miracle in itself. Considering my sister was shot multiple times (at point blank range in the face and heart), had multiple surgeries, and was in a coma for over seven days - is enough to key up the Hammond B3 Organ and give God a "Won't He Do It" Praise!

Our family was in Zebulon, waiting and praying that the doctors would release my sister in enough time so she could join us in attending the last major celebration of our mom and dad. We departed at 10am and arrived at exactly 10:30am. I greeted my wife, who was standing by with all the kids, then loaded the funeral home family car, threw the wheelchair in the back, and headed the procession home to Riley Hill Baptist Church.

In what would have been a very long, tensed, 15-minute commute, but we transformed that moment into a time of pure worship! Initially in the quietness, I heard soft sniffles, and then I heard the Holy Ghost say one word - worship! I carefully pulled out my phone, scrolled to Ricky Dillard's song "Amazing" and slowly turned up the volume. From the very first note, there was a peace that flooded the car like never before. Even our driver, Mrs. Brenda, looked up at the rear view mirror in awe that we had strength to sing and worship in a time like this. But I learned a few things in that moment about worship, to include:

1. Worship is Powerful

Power implies something has the ability (authority and might) to change or rearrange a situation, person, or state.

2. Worship is a Weapon

As with any weapon, when used properly - it has the ability to disable its target. In our case, we used our worship to God as a weapon to disable and cripple great grief.

3. Worship is Vehicle

Worship can take you places far beyond you ever ask or think. Worship can move and break you out the prison of fear, doubt, and unbelief. Worship can move you and shift your atmosphere. Worship is a vehicle that can take you places and regardless of your origin, the destination will always be closer to God!
